NEW PROFILE’s statement:
The decision by the German government to cease funding directly plays into the hands of the Israeli fascist right and its plans for endless war. It contributes to the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the violent oppressionof the Palestinian people, who are the primary victims of Germany’s support for Israel’s ultra-right government. The cessation of funding has severely impacted two Israeli human rights organizations, “Zochrot” and “New Profile,” as well as six Palestinian human rightsorganizations. These Palestinian organizations include Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, Al-Haq, Bisan Center for Research and Development, Defense for Children International-Palestine, the Union of Agricultural Work Committees, and the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees. It is crucial to emphasize that these organizations do not violateany existing laws and operate in accordance with the law in Israel. Despite being labeled as “terrorist organizations” by Germany and Israel, these groups have been working for many years alongside international human rights organizations, providing essential support to vulnerable populations. The cessation of funding poses an immediate threat to their continued work and represents yet another blow to civil society in a region increasingly characterized by militarization and authoritarianism. The German government’s claim that these organizations violate legal frameworks is unfounded. These groups have long been recognized for their contributions to human rights advocacy and social justice. This decision not only undermines efforts for peace but also exacerbates humanitarian crises, further entrenching cycles of violence and repression against marginalized communities.
