Documentary: Where olive trees weep

Directors: Maurizio BenazzoZaya Benazzo, 2024

Where Olive Trees Weep offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss, trauma, and the quest for justice.

We follow, among others, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. We also witness Dr. Gabor Maté offer trauma-healing work to a group of women who were tortured in Israeli prisons.

Ancient landscapes bear deep scars, having witnessed the brutal reality of ancestral land confiscation, expulsions, imprisonment, home demolitions, water deprivation, and denial of basic human rights. Yet, through the veil of oppression, we catch a glimpse of resilience—deep roots that have carried the Palestinian people through decades of darkness and shattered lives.

This emotional journey bares the humanity of the oppressed while grappling with the question: what makes the oppressor so ruthlessly blind to its own cruelty?

Conference for Academic Boycott 23.–15.01.2026 Berlin

The Conference for Academic Boycott will take place in Berlin from 23rd of January to 25th of January.

Goals Of The Conference

In discussions within the student movement and at the conferences mentioned above, the university as an institution has only been partially understood in relation to capitalism, imperialism and settler colonialism. Solidarity with Palestine among students and academics is currently primarily symbolical and discursive. It is therefore very visible in the public sphere, but is expressed primarily through moral slogans or performative actions. This conference aims to take a step towards a deeper understanding of the university in capitalism and imperialism, on the basis of which a broad and sustainable campaign can then be developed.

The conference has the following objectives:

    1. Knowledge transfer and discussion about the role of Israeli and German academia in maintaining occupation, apartheid and the perpetration of genocide (also from a comparative and historical perspective
    2. Empowering students, academics and administrative staff at German universities to hold their institutions accountable
    3. Developing a joint overarching strategy for a boycott campaign in Germany
